This week’s main topic is a pair of major tech purchases I just made, I pre-ordered both the newest iPhone and Canon’s newly released cinema camera, the C50. I’m pumped about these upgrades, both for me as a creator and maybe for anyone who’s into shooting content or hungry for the latest tech.

First, Canon’s C50 is now the smallest cinema-style camera they offer, and although I’ve been happy shooting my podcast on the R5 and using the R5C for nearly everything else, the C50 has some killer advantages. The big deal is the way the new sensor works, it lets me shoot and easily crop footage for vertical and horizontal formats at the same time, which is huge when juggling YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. I can even record wide and vertical versions onto separate SD cards if I need, which could be a game-changer for big teams, though probably overkill for me. It comes with better battery life than the older R5C (I’ve shredded those batteries before), improved autofocus for solo shooting, a smaller and lighter body, new Clog2 color science for easier editing and dynamic range, and it even offers 7K resolution for serious cropping flexibility. Honestly, I didn’t think I needed a new camera until I saw this thing, and now I’m counting the days until release.

As for the new iPhone, this is the upgrade practically everyone asks about, and Apple finally made major changes this year. I went for the Pro Max, as always, because I want the biggest screen, the best battery, and maxed-out storage to handle all the photos and videos I’m taking daily. The front camera is way better and lets me shoot vertical or horizontal selfies without changing how I hold the phone. All the rear cameras are now 48 megapixels, which ups the game for wide and telephoto shots. Even battery life is improved, which is a yearly must for me, honestly, swapping out for a fresh battery is a huge reason I always upgrade. Bring on the new cameras my wallet is ready (kinda)

Miriam

Miriam has been a beloved Mediterranean restaurant in Brooklyn and the UES for 20 years, and this past week they have opened up a brand new location in the West Village! All of the favs are here tableside lamb shawarma, burekas, Turkish eggs, and more!

Slicehaus

Slicehaus just opened in the West Village with a focus on of course pizza, but sandwiches as well! They have traditional slices like margarita and pepperoni, square slices with ham and corn, and potato and bacon, special slices like the polpetta and ricotta, and then the sandwiches look amazing, meatball parm, mortadella and burrata, plus a porchetta and porcini.

Txula Steak

Txula Steak is the newest concept from Jose Andres, opening in Mercado Little Spain. It is a steakhouse inspired by the flavors and foods of Basque country. Think Spanish lamb, iberico pork, steak tartare, manchego mac n cheese, and so much more!

Tradicionale

Tradicionale is a Filipino-Spanish bistro and bar opening this fall! This menu looks amazing, they have a lobster palabok with roasted lobster gravy, pork rinds, and crispy garlic, a sizzling short rib, and a longganisa fried rice with Filipino sweet sausage!

Inday’s

the Williamsburg location of Inday, is becoming Inday’s adding a ton of new dishes to their Indian comfort food menu! Naan con tomate, biryani with Indian katsu chicken, and more!

Narkara

Narkara is the brand new Thai restaurant in Union Square that focuses on dishes from the north and north eastern part of Thailand. Standouts from the menu include gaeng kradang which is a chilled red curry, kanom krom pu is a savory take on coconut street pancakes filled with crab and jam, and then kua kae ped is a seared duck breast tossed with Thai eggplant, string beans, and more!

Crispy Heaven

Crispy Heaven in Soho is launching dinner service for the first time, serving it every Friday and Saturday Evening. The menu’s stand out items include their spicy chorizo pizza napoletana, dry aged burger with cheddar, wagyu tacos, roasted cauliflower, and more!

UOVO

Coming Spring 2026 is going to be UOVO, an Italian restaurant from LA, which is opening in NoMad where every single day handmade pasta will be flown in from Bologna Italy!

TV

“The Paper” is the new “The Office” spinoff on Peacock, and I really liked it! I think if you are expecting The Office, you will be disappointed, because even though its being promoted as a spin off of that, Oscar is even on this show, it really feels more Parks and Rec in terms of its tone, and heart. It follows the news team of a local Toledo, Ohio workplace, as they navigate a dying industry. Funny, very very sweet, and an east watch at only 10 episodes. I do think 10 episodes at the end of the day is what hurts it the most. Comedy comes from establishing a relationship with these characters, both as a viewer and from the writers/actors. 10 episodes just isn’t enough time, as they rush through arcs! This is a wider streaming issue, than just The Paper issue, but I am thrilled that they already got a 2nd season order, so hopefully that’s where the show will really take off!

TV

I watched the new Charlie Sheen doc on Netflix, “AKA Charlie Sheen” and it’s WILD! Narrated from Charlie himself, it goes into detail about the very highs and lowest of lows of his entire life and career, some stories I remembered, some I forgot, and some he had never told before. It’s two 1.5 hour episodes, and to see everything he has gone through in 3 hours, left my jaw on the floor, and questioning how he is even alive.
