We are one week out from the election, how you feeling?

I can't believe how close it is. I can't believe that it's still so tight, even though people have the knowledge that they didn't have from 2016 of how bad Trump can be. And there are so many more Republicans who are willing to go on the record and say how bad he is in a way that we have never seen before. And I think I feel bad and scared because I feel like the support he's getting is just reflective of like how polarized and stuck we're going to be for a long time. Even if and when Trump goes away and doesn't win, like everything he's built is not going away. And I'm just shocked that people can have so much evidence of who a person is as a human being and as a president. And they're still like, well, he's an empty vessel to an extent and the things I care about, he'll care about too. And it's just like, are they lying to themselves? Are they getting the wrong information?

It feels like Trump really can do anything, and nobody cares anymore. Will there ever be a breaking point?

Unfortunately, I don't think so. It would have to be the most heinous crimes you could imagine times 12 and they would have to have been committed yesterday and on video and Donald Trump would have to be like, yes, I did this. I think he has just flooded the airwaves and our political psyche with so much noise and so many scandals that happened so quickly in succession that It's so easy for people to just be like, wait a second, what matters? What happened?

Does Trump have PTSD?

I'm not a doctor and I haven't had the chance to evaluate him, but I have talked to my therapist a lot about what's going on and she is also a consumer of news and she brought up the idea to me a couple of weeks ago that was like about him suffering from symptoms of untreated PTSD and as someone who has complex PTSD from different traumatic events in my life, I totally have seen and understand what it's like when you are suffering because you are not treating it, like literally treating it by going to therapy and basically working out your brain. And it really can alter your life. In addition to just not sleeping or having insomnia, your interpersonal relationships ruined. You're likely to have angry outbursts and like have more erratic behavior. Decision making like out the window. It's just... I think it's crazy to think that anyone could survive. What I would argue is more than a near-death experience. That man, it was like a quarter of an inch, and he knows that. His ear was bleeding from it, so he had that physical sensation, which is a reminder, and trauma is stored in the body. There is no scenario in which someone would have that type of experience and not be traumatized.

Traumatized is not you know, like a partisan word. It's literally just like it is what it is when you have an experience like that and he's not stopped. He's not changed his behavior. He's not decided to isolate, so his body and his mind are probably constantly in hyper vigilance mode and he's already somebody who's angry and he's old. So I feel like that's just a perfect cocktail of things to make someone more erratic and uncontrollable.

What have you thought about Kamala’s campaign?

I am obsessed with their digital game. Like properly obsessed and I'm shocked that this democratic digital talent has just been waiting in the wings. It's these cool people have just been waiting and not just the digital operatives by the way like a lot of the people she's brought onto the campaign, Brian Fallon, Ian Sams just to name two, they are really good democratic strategists and operatives who have known her, worked with her, been with her a long time and understand that like, it's a bigger job than her and themselves. And I feel like the Biden campaign was too focused on themselves as an entity and in Joe Biden and his ego. It was all about protecting Joe Biden's ego and protecting, I think, the future employability. I don't know if that's even the right word, but like literally whether or not these guys will have jobs in democratic politics moving forward. It was a terrible campaign. It is night and day with Kamala Harris. I think the media strategy has been great. I love seeing Beltway reporters whine about not getting interviews with her, and I love seeing her go on Fox News and crush it.

Is Elon Musk going to go to jail? Get his Govt contracts cancelled?

Senators, even members of the House, they are absolutely going to have to do something that like not only further investigates the government contracts that Elon Musk currently has through Starlink and otherwise, but pass something to change the way that they exist, not just for Elon Musk, but in the future.

It is shocking that his relationship with Putin and the way he went out of his way to help him to help China. It is antithetical to a lot of the things that these America first people pretend to stand for. But more than that, he controls so much of our lives and also the way that other countries can fare during wartime. And that is crazy to think about. Elon Musk having his hands on the levers of any country's ability to defend themselves or to help their people, or not, in times of need. And he is, I mean, he's someone who gets on stage and like his body just decides to like try to jump off the ground, even though he only gets like two inches off the ground, if even. He is totally not somebody who is fit to be running all this and the government contracts are a big deal that I would imagine Democrats have already started looking at a bit.

And I would imagine that especially, I mean, obviously, if Trump wins and Elon is given a position in his cabinet or administration in any way, that would make it so that they need to do something immediately. But then of course it depends on the control of Congress.

What is the most iconic NYC restaurant in your eyes?

I feel like if I were going back, I love St. Mazie's in Williamsburg, obsessed. If I could live there, I would. Like literally, if I could live there, I would. If I could go in the basement and just like hide out each night when they close and then come back when they open, I would truly do that.

And I'm basic and I love Hillstone. I love Hillstone. Give me the Spinach Artichoke Dip. Give me the ribs. Give me a salad. It's always good, always solid. And I used to live like two blocks from it, so I would go all the time.

Hellbender

From the team behind Rolo’s and Radio Bakery is Hellbender, which has a brand new Mexican-American menu with a focus on intentional sourcing of local and heirloom ingredients. Some highlights include a fried Oaxacan Cheese “Mexican mozzarella stick” dipped in corn flakes, oyster mushroom birria tacos, crispy chorizo lamb tacos, and pork ribs al pastor!

Amano

Amano is expanding both their Cobble Hill, and West Village locations to go from a cafe, to cocktail bar and full restaurant at night! They have a “fat washed” cocktail menu, think brown butter washed bourbon! And a menu with standouts that include heritage pork belly skewers with a thai chili caramel, sweet potato gnocchi with hen of the woods and shitake mushrooms, and a burger with sharp provolone!

Passerine

Passerine opens November 1st in Flatiron, and combines Indian techniques and flavors with local seasonal ingredients. Menu highlights include chicken kofta, grilled oysters with an ajwain masala hollandaise, and a blue corn bhakri with brown butter!

Nizuc

Nizuc has launched a new brunch menu with a focus on coastal Mexican inspired dishes with a modern twist. I gotta eat this! Rib eye gringa taco with a queso chihuahua, chorizo eggs benedict, french toast with a banana creme brulee and coffee butter, and a fried chicken sandwich with buttermilk serrano sauce, and queso americano.

Youtube

I talk about Johnny Harris videos alot here, but he dropped another must watch this week! It’s a deep dive on Trump, and how the lessons he has learned throughouth his life, have shaped the person we see in front of us. I think its a really great job of keeping it unbiased, and just an account of who this man is, and always has been. Fascinating look into his psyche WATCH HERE
