EXPERT’S WORDS: George Arango🎤

Excerpts below, but the Full interview can heard on the podcast, LISTEN HERE, and available anywhere podcasts are found “Let Me Tell You Why…with Jeremy Jacobowitz”! In the full interview we dive deeper into content strategy for social media, and the Miami spot that “isn’t for him.”

What’s happening overall in the Miami food scene 2025?

So Miami is kind of tricky in a sense of you don't have this big boom of all these restaurants coming in. You're now seeing some of those restaurants close, but then the local spots kind of thriving and maybe opening up a second location. So you're familiar with Jaguar Sun and then Sunny's and then now they also have Viceversa. Then you have Pablo from Zitz Sum opening up Dojo Izakaya in the Gables.

So we have all the local homegrown Miami chefs now opening up second, third ventures. And I find that amazing.

What’s something surprising that people may not realize about restaurants in Miami?

That it's more spread out than people may think, that everything is not great on South Beach or Miami Beach. And you know this, that you kind of have to go more inland and the more west and south you go, the more diverse, the more authentic, the more mom and pop. So it's similar to LA in the sense of you need a car to navigate Miami. And especially if you're trying to find the best bites, that's the biggest thing that people don't realize, that they think they're just coming to visit Miami and it's the Papi Steaks, the Carbones, but it's a lot more than that, you know?.

Favorite Cuban sandwich spot?

So like the best Cubano sandwich, like Cuban sandwich. It has to still be Sanguich. It still has to be, people that are locals want to hate on it because so many tourists go to it and it has a more modern and Americano approach to it. So it doesn't feel as gritty and authentic. But to me, consistency is the number one thing. And their bread is always consistent. Their proteins always have a bunch of flavor that they're doing in-house, and the cheese, and the sauces. Like, what more do you want from a place that is being consistent in providing a good product? With a Cuban sandwich, I think they're number one.

What’s the most iconic restaurant in Miami?

Joe Stone Crabs has to be the most iconic because it is the oldest. I would say Versailles also has to be thrown in there. It's the most famous Cuban restaurant in the world, I would say, at this point. A community and cultural staple in Miami. You'll see a group of grandparents and just viejos just talking at the ventanita, getting Cuban coffee, discussing politics or sports.

And that's just part of the Miami culture. Miami has a ventanita, a to go little window for coffee and pastries on every corner. Like New York has pizza.

Bagizza

Bagizza is NYC’s first pizza bagel shop that just opened in midtown! Not only are they serving bagels with a little influence of NYC and Montreal style, but what they are dubbing “bagizza” which is a bagel dough made into a pizza! They def have an interesting array of items! For the bagizza’s they have shrimp toast with lemon, curry mayo and chives, and a caponata with garlic bechamel, eggplant, tomato, artichoke capers, honey, and chili. And for the bagels: bagon kimchi jam, caramelized onions and bacon cream cheese, garlic bechamel, and strawberry butter spread, just to name a few.

Peter Luger Steakhouse

Peter Luger is launching two brand new items, and they don’t launch alot, so this is a big deal! First up they have teamed with Threes Brewing to launch the Luger Lager, a Bavarian lager that will be available at the Brooklyn and Great Neck Peter Luger locations, and at Threes Brewing. And to go alongside that, they have a brand new lunch only housemade brat that is made with pork shoulder, USDA prime dry- aged trimmings, poached in that Luger Lager, finished in that broiler, and comes served with a homemade mustard and vinegar dressed cabbage.

Deux Luxe

Deux Luxe is a new to-go wagyu burger restaurant opening in Soho! They have a number of different burgers on the menu, the classic has cheddar and garlic aioli, the Big Deux has two wagyu patties with special sauce, and they will be offering limited edition specials like a butter chicken burger, and kimchi burger!

Industry Kitchen

Industry Kitchen is launching their “artisanal-crafted personal flatbreads”! You will find flavors like caviar & dreams, and a truffle cacio e pepe.

Bandits Burger & Dive

Bandits is becoming Bandits Burger & Dive which not only will continue to be an amazing cocktail bar, but also now a “throwback” burger joint. They will have two burgers on the menu, one thick, one double smash, plus a fish sandwich with a smoked trout roe tartare, onion rings, and a lemon pepper chicken sandwich. The Bandits Tavern Burger is an 8oz patty made with dry aged wagyu beef, b-1 sauce, white cheddar, and shaved red onion. The double smash burger is a brisket blend with special sauce, american cheese, shaved onions, and dill pickles on a potato bun. The kitchen will be open Sun-Thurs until midnight, and Fri and Sat will be 2am!

YOUTUBE

Youtube Shorts have discovered that I love watching chiropractors on the platform, and I cant get enough of it! I love being cracked, I love watching people being cracked, and especially get a thrill out of watching people get a “ring dinger.” It at once terrifies me that their necks are going to be broken, and is beyond satisfying watching their pain disappear in a matter of seconds!

BOOKS

I read my second book in a few weeks, which is a huge accomplishment! This time is is from the iconic NYC restaurateur and his memoir “I Regret Almost Everything.” I knew of his restaurants of course, Balthazar just to name one of the many many many crazy successful spots, and I knew about his now infamous Instagram persona, but I never really knew anything else about this deeply complicated man with an unbelievable story to tell. This book was so vulnerable, and so personal, and I read it in one day, because I couldn’t put it down. BUY HERE
